Has this substance ever been mentioned on the Simpsons?

By the way, I think it tastes good, except for the fact that it has about twenty times more salt than it should have.

Is that like Spam for Australians?

Yep, sorta, but it's a non-meat spread rather than a pink cube of alleged pork.

Marmite is like Spam, only it's made of marmots.

Vegemite, of course, is made of brain-dead auto accident victims.

Aren't marmots those things that wolverines eat?

And, don't criticize Australia. I have seen the pictures of the beautiful amazon women going topless on the beaches of Australia. All we have here is Roseanne Arnold!

Huh? I thought the Amazon was in South America.

I thought it was in Rand McNally...

Isn't that the land where they wear hats on their feet and hamburgers eat people?

Actually, practically every Amazon lived in the area around Thermodon. :-P

Soylent Auzzies?

Heh. Love the toaster with the popup toast on the Marmite site. Toast pops up...toast pops up...toast pops up...my Friday night is complete!

More like peanut butter for Brits. It's an acquired taste. You either love it or despise it. My grandmother used to eat it, which always struck me as odd as she was an Irish catholic who hated the English.

Listen buddy, I don't know why you're getting an attitude with me, but you live in Australia. You're a friggin liar and I just don't like that. If you don't start telling the truth soon, I will assume that you are a terrorist and I will get the foreigner police to arrest you.

That's a pretty lame attempt at humor.

Yes, in "Bart v Australia" during the slide-slow of Australian-American relations, a slide is shown of a Subway store, with a "Footlong Vegemite Sub" sign advertised in the window.

David AngelovichDaniel Burdie

Any Australians know if we even had Subway stores over here when that was aired? I only realised they were here 2-3 years ago....

aired?

Been around for years. Last time I went to one was about 6 years ago in Brisbane.

aired?

The original Subway in the Melbourne CBD (Elizabeth St, facing Flinders St Station) has been there at least 6 or more years. In a few more years time, there were 3 or 4 in the city. Then this past year or two, the chain's presence has seen an explosion with stores opening in basically every suburb, second only to McDonald's in blanket coverage.

Being an empirist, I tasted Marmite after I heard of it and located it in a store here.

Let me rephrase that, I ACTUALLY TASTED MARMITE ONCE.

If you don't understand the horror I intended to convey above, you have *not* survived the experience of tasting Marmite, or balked at the last second.

It brought to my mind various tests of durability, stamina, tolerance of pain, that candidates in numerous clans, sects, secret societies, etc., have to endure. Eating Marmite is surely among the tests used by some of the more twisted of those societies. I'm confident that once the testee passes that, s/he is offered a glass of seawater to wash down the taste of Marmite.

I've been told that to be able to actually *swallow* Marmite more than once, and without it being a life-or-death choice, you have to be a genuine Brit, born in the Isles, and fed the paste regularly throughout the first years of childhood, for it is the only way a human being can learn to tolerate its taste.
