Today is a good day because at least for the next few years I will not be a full time student anymore (MS Physics at GaTech). And with all this free time, I am led to the following question. Does anyone in the Atlanta area ever go to Simpsons Trivia (I think there is one on Monday nights in the Toco Hills area)? I have actually been wanting to go, but school has been a burden for longer than I care to remember.

Um, where did the SNPP guys get the idea that the Van Houtens were going to get back together in this episode??? I was even more excited about this episode then I should have been.

Thoughts:

1) Apu should have had a racecar bed like Kirk. Or maybe some other form of masculine bed like a jungle type thingy? Maybe I missed something in the season 8 episode, but I always assumed that was the bed Kirk got and not just one be brought from the house to the single place?

2) This is nit-picking I am sure, but being a good ole southerner I feel as though I should teach something I picked up living in the Dirty Dirty. The last incarnation of the "Stars and Bars" flag that graced the confederacy in the Civil War was actually square and not at the standard flag ratio. For instance, in the old Georgia State flag (the one we fortunately changed a little over a year ago), we had the correct proportions of the Confederate flag added to the state seal at the left.

3) Why did this have to be only a 22 minute episode? I enjoyed this one so much that they should have made it a two-parter. Maybe Homer should have tried to get Kirk and Luann back together in the second parter just for the hell of it. I love that guy.

4) I liked Homer's Gung Ho yet misguided patriotism. U-S-A.. U-S-A... "You can run but you cant glide..." (maybe a commentary on the post 9-11 America?)

5) Why did they have to use a new lawyer and not the old glasses guy? I really miss Lionel Hutz. He also could have been a good lawyer in the first part of act 3.

6) Yes this is another corny detail, but on Homers nametag, I would have really appreciated it if above his "TRAINEE" nametab they put a snpp or S.N.P.P. It just would have been cute. :-)

Richard Avedon: More information can be found about him at http://www.richardavedon.com/ . He is a great portrait photographer whose close up of peoples faces are worldwide known. I checked the website because I was not sure he is still alive (which he is).

Review: This really should have been a two part episode. It was too good to happen on just one night. The people love Apu (or is it Apoo), and would not mind seeing a second part to this one. Why they needed a clip episode two weeks when they have gems like this up their sleeves is beyond me. On the curve of episodes past season 9, this one is an A. There is a little heart left to this show yet!

Phil Hartman was killed in 1998, so Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz have been retired.

Sort of the same reason he backed away in act 1. I'd say originally it was both from seeing Apu cheating and seeing some amorous events...so at the end, the joke is that while Manjula said it would take time for them to get back to normal, that aspect returned instantly, and so Homer saw Apu In Action again.

I think Al Jean said they had to do the clip show in part because they started late after contract talks or something.

I was thinking of the lawyer guy who maybe works for Mr. Burns. Wasnt he the lawyer in the Bart gets hit by a car episode? I know about Mr. Hartmans demise and was thinking more of how much better the scene could have been with him there. Just missing him.

Ah...ok, I got confused. Yeah, I suppose the pasty-face lawyer would have been good, but he strikes me as a very expensive one, so I guess that's why he hasn't come up much except with Mr. Burns.

Yeah, but the attorney repeatedly jumping on the desk to dance made absolutely no sense, unless I am completely missing a reference...

The refrence is that attorneys are constantly depicted as greedy de-humanized ghouls. This is just another use of that stereotype. He danced on the desk for the same reason he gasped when she said there were 8 children, he smelled a big cash payoff.

Yeah, I know how attorneys are depicted, but the dancing on the desk was just weird and seemed awfully random.

Pupils turning into larger and larger dollar signs or daydreaming of larger and larger houses/boats/cars/etc (or something like that) when Manjula gave more and more detail would have been much less random and probably more funny than jumping up on the desk and dancing at random intervals.

Again, he was shocked at what he saw, but I think it might have been an offhand reference to Bluto Blutarsky (John Belushi) on the ladder peeking into the sorority house bedroom in Animal House. He moved around by hopping the ladder. Kind of a thin reference, but I'm grasping at straws.
