Wouldn't the nerds want to watch the Itchy & Scratchy episode where Scratchy finally kills Itchy?

Not really. In college I knew people who would have been computer or Star Trek nerds, but wouldn't have cared about a cartoon short. Anything that wasn't "tech" they had no interest in.

It wouldn't be a blunder if David S. Cohen hadn't established that they were big I&S fans in "The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show." Maybe that's the real reason David changed his middle initial.
