alt.collecting.simpsons
What does everyone think? It would be nice to be able to trade figures through a newsgroups. It would keep from cluttering up this HG with figures postings. If someone can get this process moving, I think you would make a lot of Simpsons fans happy.

I agree that it is not cluttering up with posts, but I would like to post more about figures and such, but I don't because it doesn't look like many people do. I think maybe other avoid it too, so they don't get yelled at. (You know how some people get when something is posted that they don't feel should be...)

I urge you to check on alt.config, which is already clogged with ideas for groups no one else wants except for the originator. Alt.animation.warner-bros was afflicted a few years ago with someone who wanted to sell WB memorabilia, but it turned out that the majority of a.a.w-b posters just wanted to talk about the cartoons. He finally got his group, but the last time I checked it was mostly full of spam. IMO e-bay is a much better place to sell stuff, unless you're sure you have a LARGE market. alt. config has ways for you to check on this before you establish a newsgroup.

Just go to www.simpsonscollectors.com and sign up with the message board there. It's a great community of collectors of Simpsons merch and we get all the latest news right away. We even get to ask 20 questions to Playmates toys each month about their current line of Simpsons action figures. The site also has a "Buy/Sell/Trade" forum for the figures and one for general merch. It's really a great site. :) (Shameless plug!)

Anyone on Usenet can create any newsgroup in the alt. hierarchy that they wish, whether there is a demand for it or not. If they feel it is justifiable, they are perfectly within their rights to create a new newsgroup.
But then I think I just wanted to argue. Nevermind.
