Why don't we get out the Big Book of British Smiles?
Being British, I never quite got this (although I did need a brace :P) can someone, prefrably American, explain this for me? Is it some sort of inaccurate stereotype?
Yeah, inaccurate stereotype is pretty much what it boils down to. Austin Powers makes obvious cracks about this too. Not sure of its origins though.
No, it's not a stereotype, it's the truth. British people have hideous teeth. Usually it's not due to brushing, it's more like one of their front teeth are always crooked.
Don't take offense, good chap? I think there are some good American jokes floating around over there...
--- Someday, I will introduce dentistry to Britain.

Hehe, Americans are funny.
(and they don't get irony so I can offend their entire 'nation' without them ever knowing (damn, rumbled))

So, you personally know EVERY Brit?
Indeed I do, glaven.

It wasn't just Brits. Back in the middle ages, everyone had horrible teeth
I'm sure cavemen had horrible teeth too. What from eating all the dinosaurs and the rocks and the hey hey and the time machines going boingboingboing and killer fish with feet glaven!

OK, I used to think that it was an "old time" stereotype, that certainly teeth like that can't exist in this day and age....
But the last time I was backpacking in London, I saw the most hilariously awful teeth. This guy was trying to get my to stay at a bed-and-breakfast just west of Victoria station, and his teeth were just.... they were the "colour" of baked beans, and his front teeth were somehow REALLY narrow at the top, and got wider as they went. Frankly, I couldn't believe they were still connected to his jaw.
I couldn't stay at his place. I could barely keep from busting out laughing. (It was summer '99, and Austin Powers was EVERYWHERE.) And I kept an eye out for "interesting" smiles while I was in the country.
So, Britain, I guess what I'm trying to say is, your old people have worse teeth than our old people. Much, much worse. It's not such a bad stereotype, though. When we're in Europe, everyone thinks we're loud, tall, fat, and rich. And that's only PARTLY true, too. :)

Yeah, we're not rich.

Hey, I may be tall, fat, and rich, but I'm not...what was that third thing you said? ________________________________________________________________
