While watching tonight's terribly unfunny episode, I've come to a realization. The Simpsons' worst episodes are always the ones where they try to "play" politics. Especially when their obvious liberal biases are shown in full "color." They should really stay away from this topic.

Wait, you're a conservative and you thought this episode was biased AGAINST liberals?? What? I'm a liberal and on the political scale this episode was about 85% tipped to the left! They only made fun of Clinton having him smoke a bunch of cigarettes. That's not even a joke about his politics.
Tonight's episode was wonderful. I always love it when the Simpsons goes political. I mean usually it's just Lisa but tonight it was the whole Simpson family. It was terrific. Why shouldn't the writers display their "true colors"? What is going on in America right now is very serious and I'm glad the SImpsons is tackling it. The second act was probably the best, with the dead on parody of small town America gone beserk for blind patriotistm, reactionaries against "anti-Americanism", and the propagation of fear and intolerance and the hampering of free speech. The third act had some good moments like the Ronald Reagan re-education center.

There were funny moments, but the political satire was simple-minded and heavy-handed. The people who most liked this episode are the ones who like their answers simple and don't like to think too much.

Too bad it wasn't a very good episode. They simply don't know enough about politics and current events to be funny, even when I agree with them.

If you don't like it, then don't watch it. Don't watch another episode ever again. don't buy the DVDs. Don't read this newsgroup. Instead of watching Fox, go watch Fox News. It's probably close enough for you.

It's funny how people who insist that TV shows, celebrities, etc. avoid politics always seem to include their own political biases in their comments. It kind of makes me wonder whether it isn't so much that these people want the entertainment media to avoid politics so much as politics that they don't personally agree with.
