Why are there so many Doctor Who references stuck throughout "The Simpsons"? For example - the TARDIS (white for some reason) was in last night's Edna/CBG episode, CBG mentioned it once while wheeling out his 100 tacos, and an animated version of Tom Baker has appeared at least 3 times! Why do they bother, I mean, very few people would understand the references...

I think they are trying to appeal to both the adult and young ages. My professor at a major university loves this show and talks about it in his lectures....I'm talking about someone who has a PHD. This show transcends all age groups so they have to have mass appeal in their humor so people will tune in each week. Thoughts?

i assumed this post was going to provoke a series of reports on incidences of more obscure shows or films (or etc) were referenced more frequently but no-one has come forward. oh well.
