I�ve seen the latest two episodes now. Here�s my personal opinion.
EABF11 Scuse Me While I Miss The Sky
I had expected better from that episode, I didn�t like it very much. Lisa was once again too much of a rather stereotypical mini-adult and without much depth. I had also expected some sort of social commentary from the plot but it was pretty superficial. Some nice jokes and scenes but also some mean stuff (Willie�s tongue and the glass shards) without much connection to the story.
The episode has some positive aspects (e.g. integration of a subplot, nice ending) but the plot is too flat for my taste, especially for a Lisa episode. We have a very good Homer/Lisa episode in S14, "The Dad Who Knew Too Little", but the other Lisa episodes are IMO all pretty mediocre and the quality is below "Little Girl in the Big Ten" (and of course far below the real classics.)
EABF12 Three Gays of The Condo
Now this episode was clearly better - a stable and character-driven plotline with emotions, little filler material, and good jokes. The conflict wasn�t too constructed and the plot worked well without crude humor. A fight between Homer and Marge itself is not new but it�s shown in a refreshing way. I can relate pretty good to plot and characters in such a complex story.
That�s maybe also the problem of the episode, there seems to be a little too much story in too little time, especially the third act is pretty fast. Not everything makes sense (Dr. Hibbert and his tape) and Moe is too mean for my taste. The cameo of Weird Al (including song) is nice, but pretty useless. Nevertheless, one of the best S14 episodes with a good difference to the modern mainstream.
What can I say about Season 14 in general: the second half of the season seems to be clearly better than the first half. Episodes like "Helter Shelter" had IMO a strong S11 feel and the humor was too much fart and diarrhea for my taste. The second half of the season is more about characters and true satire, "Mr Spritz" as outstanding example for the latter. Not like the old days, but the right way.
