DVD Languages

I do not have a DVD player, but I want to buy one.

Before I do... Those Simpsons DVDs, can you hear it is Spanish? I know that it has Spanish subtitles but I want to hear the voices in Spanish.

I'll go check my european one to see. I think its just subtitles though..........

The US release has soundtracks in English and French. However, the Latin-american release does have soundtracks in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. The DVDs are the exact same, with the special features and all, with the only difference being the additional languages. I live in Mexico City and I usually have to wait at least a month for the Latin-american release, but I do think it's a much better buy (unless you really like the French language). I don't know if you can get that particular release in English-speaking countries, though.

There are a half-dozen Spanish TV stations to choose from - none in French. Hmm - you'd think the market would dictate that they provide a Spanish version.

It's probably because most of the Spanish speaking people in the US actually do learn the language. Meanwhile, in parts of Canada, they still think French is their native language. It's annoying - I have to deal with a Canadian company from time to time, and I finally found 1 person there who has his voice mail in English first, and French second. He's probably violating some law or at least pissing some people off by doing so - French speakers are very touchy about their language.
