Kodos and Kang should ...

NEVER be on anything but Halloween specials, or maybe in the background (in cameo) for comedic relief, but NEVER as actual living and breathing/talking/interacting Characters ... Everyone knows that they are not characters in the "real world" of OFF, but are characters they bring out for those "offbeat" fantasy, what if, kind of episodes... (if you get my drift...). We wait eagerly every year to see Kodos and Kang appear in the Halloween specials, and using them in a clip show is nearly sacreligious.

To me, having Kodos and Kang as real characters is no different then suddenly having Maggie talking in a regular episode. It's just one of those unwritten rules.Seems like the current crop of writers just don't "get it" ...

I don't think you can really consider clip shows canonical. I mean if you consider this to be a "regular" episode then you have to believe that someone has been video taping every moment of the simpsons lives in order to be able to show those memories on the screen. Kang and Kodos are allowed in non-canonical episodes and this clip show certainly falls into that category.

Well, the alien abduction from the first Treehouse of Horror was shown in the first clip show, but Kang and Kodos didn't actually appear. One of them did show up in "The Springfield Files," though.
