Worst guest star ever?

Who would you say was the worst guest star ever, in terms of delivery, etc. I know there's about a million to choose from (especially in the last couple seasons) but off the top of my head, I'd say Pete Sampras. I've never heard anyone's lines sound so forced before.

Would you agree that the guest-star-mania has really hurt the show in recent years? I really think that if they concentrated less on the guest stars and...well...you get the picture.

As far as worst guest stars ever, The Who were pretty awful. Britney Spears was pretty damn unnecessary. As was Mel Gibson...and Regis & Kathie Lee...

BUT, I have to admit that I really like the recent Xmas episode with Gary Coleman (and Tim Robbins and Funzo and the galaxy of prawns).

That was definitely my favorite moment from that ep. At least with Mel Gibson, he was there the whole show. For people like Brittney Spears, she had two lines in the first 30 seconds of the show. Hardly a necessary guest appearance.

They should have just did the voice for her, like they did with Rosey O'Donnel when Bart and Homer were on the rocket to the sun (in the THOH ep from a season or two ago).

As for the Pete Sampras comment by the person who started this thread, I can understand what you're saying, but that's *really* what Pete Sampras is like. I'm not joking. If you ever have the chance, watch him in a post match press conference. Whether he wins or loses, he sounds like he's discussing the items he just bought at the grocery store. Even after he wins a Grand Slam championship. It's the same thing.

That's why everyone thinks he's so utterly boring and hard to root for...

Yeah, but Tom Arnold doesn't take himself seriously like Rosie O'Donnel or many of the other people on that rocket. I think it's obvious, given the fact that Tom did his own voice for a scene like that.

that shit is fucking awesome with gary coleman but they made fun of him , big time, the others just walk in turn the story, I think the look on homers face says it all, he always has that deadpan when a celeb is on, that's how I feel , and as for pointless, Phish, I get the connection but did they have to talk and ahh what ever I guess it wasn't that bad but they should have just had cherry garcia or some tribute grateful dead band on. it is a cartoon they could bring the dead back to life

I tend to agree. I would definitely put this episode in the worst five ep list and Drew in the worst five guest list.

The only thing funny about that episode was the Devil's Advocate bit and Homer's last line:

You make it sound like the joke was predictable and therefore not funny. The way Homer asked Marge if he could play after Krusty bitched and moaned about his situation and then to see him on a pinball machine at the Kwik-E-Mart... how is that not funny?

To me the joke seemed too easy to make. It's an easy play on words. It's not predictable, but it's something we have seen too often elsewhere. That's why I didn't find it funny. It's just my opinion.

inspired by this part of the thread, i went back last night and watched it again. thought act 1 was really funny. liked all the fat tony moments later on. some touching stuff between krusty and what's-her-name, mumbly joe ... not one of the greatest eps, but not *that* bad IMHO. worth watching, i thought. some funny stuff! like how the troops react to krusty's comedy? the cincinatti bengals cheerleaders! i can't look at that, i've got a girlfriend back home! or after krusty's "so damn insane" joke, one replied "you're just fanning the flames of hatred!" etc. just giving examples of some part i thought were funny, instead of saying good (or bad) episode and not supporting it. ok buh-bye.

i don't agree. i respect your opinion, and i would've agreed some time ago, but then i took a step back and noticed i got caught up and distracted with the recent years' apparent suckiness. meanwhile i had forgotten what the simpsons is all about (for me): satire and social commentary and ripping apart absolutely everything even itself (we've had this thread before i know). but if you look at it this way, the episode is hilarious! it's just ripping apart boy bands and nsync the whole episode! the "flat humorless delivery, ... the singing" i agree, it was awful. but so bad it's funny for me! the simpsons are just taking a popular guest star, inviting them on the show, and making them look *even stupider* than they are in real life. what genius! everybody keeps talking about the decline of the show. i see it as a mirror reflecting the decline of taste, standards, values, etc. resorting to stupid sex jokes and physical humor just points back at society in general cause *that's* what people want, expect and wouldn't watch if it wasn't there (again, in general. maybe not people in *here*). i see the show as a constant reminder of how much pop culture and modern society su-diddly-uck in so many ways, it pokes fun at every one of us and that's hilarious to me. and it purposefully denigrates itself because *nothing* is sacred in this day and age, and if they didn't do it to themselves, someone else would and it wouldn't be *nearly* as funny. this is just my opinion (partly). it has helped me enjoy the past years more. maybe it's just a defense mechanism, which i'm willing to admit but don't care about. i'm gonna be quiet now. i didn't explain it as well as i wanted to, but oh well.
