After an embarrasing night out with Bart and Homer, Lisa writes into her log that she feels unhappy, because she lives in an intellectual wasteland. Meanwhile, at the prison, Sideshow Bob is awaiting execution. However, he realizes that he does not want to die, so he busts out of prison. Then, he gets to work on his next diabolical scheme: kidnapping Lisa and going into hiding with her. Bob plans to use her as bait. He sets up a trap for Bart, because he's hoping that the kidnapping will spite Bart enough to eventually find Bob's hideout. While being held in captivity, Lisa starts to admire Sideshow Bob for his wit, charm, and intellect, and soon considers him the father figure she's always wanted. Bob returns the feelings, and Lisa thinks that she might be able to change Bob from his evil ways. Meanwhile, Bart, bloodthirsty for Sideshow Bob, and worried about Lisa, does indeed set out to rescue her.
