Global Fanfest info ??

Hi, i'm french and i wanted to know if someone here had gone to the global fan fest weekend celebration in october 2000 in hollywood. I know it was a long time ago and there are probably not many people who went there as it was an invitation only event but maybe some of you had the chance to have an invitation. I need some information because i would like to write an article about this event and I realised there was very little information about it on the internet. That would be very cool if you could help me ! thanks

Stephen, Actually, that should have been "questions". There were a whole bunch of them, and I don't remember what they were. I do remember the producers didn't know how to spell "Nahasapeemapetilon."

Ok thanks for replying, here are a few questions I'd like to ask you... How did you get to work there ? Could you explain the organisation of the trivia challenge, how many challengers, questions, etc... Was the winner American, did he win a prize ? Do you have any pics ?

I've been working for Matt Groening since '98. When Fox asked Bongo (Matt's company) for someone to write the trivia questions (3500 of them!), I volunteered.

I'm sorry, I really don't know/remember how it was set up. My job was only to write the questions.

Some of the finalists were from other countries, but yes, the winner was American. Don't remember what he won, or the question that won it for him.

I'll you what I do remember: Fox put a lot of time, effort and money into the Fan Fest event, and it RAINED all day. Some quick-thinker went out and got yellow ponchos for everybody. We made the best of it. There were Moe's Taverns and Krusty Burgers all over the Fox Studio lot, serving free beer, wine, food, sodas -- as you wanted. The cast had a live reading of an episode, Alf Clausen & his orchestra played music. There were rides, including a Ferris Wheel decorated to look like a donut, and Simpson-themed sideshow games. It was a real blast.

I didn't take any pictures, but lots of people did. Check on Google, I'll bet you find some.

A few weeks later, Fox sent me some nice presents for helping them-- a framed picture of Comic Book Guy, soaking wey from the rain, sain "Worst Fan Fest Ever" and a bottle of wine with those cartoon French bad guys on the label, who put anti-freeze in there wine from the show.

Ok thank you, I had already read all that on Bill Larue's site but I was thinking you could have interesting pics too as you were part of the staff. I've seen a picture of the wine bottles, they look cool, do you still have them ? there's an auction for the 2 bottles and a kang and kodos picnic backpack on ebay right now (5960336072), ending in 5 days and already selling for $375 !!!

Naw, I was too busy that day to take pictures, and my kids didn't think of it. I guess when you work with the Simpsons, you forget how special they are to everyone else.

Yes, I still have my wine bottle, but I'd never sell it. It looks too cool in my wine rack!
