There's this fine girl that I've known for a few months now and we have lots of similar interests. But she's annoyed by the fact that I absolutely love the Simpsons! Granted, we can agree to disagree on this, and she's welcome to dislike the show. HOWEVER.... She says it's merely a "kid's show". Obviously she has never seen much of it, because I know lots of elements that contradict what she says! But I wanted to know if anyone could give me the link to a good article or editorial that she could read, concerning the subject.

I think calling The Simpsons a children's program just because it's animated is silly, and I feel a bit personally offended by her remark!!

Tell her to watch the show before she makes a silly statement like that. And my advice is to avoid women who don't like "The Simpsons" -- they're humorless.

Since she hasn't watched much of the show, yet she still makes such sweeping assertions, she is obviously very judgemental. I wouldn't necessarily say "avoid women who don't like 'The Simpsons,'" but that should definitely activate a red alert in your mind. Frankly, anyone with a decent sense of humor at LEAST respect the show. And those with great senses of humor love it.

Regardless of how fine she might be, remember that it's her mind that you have to live with.

till her that if Simpsons was a kids show it would be on nick,cartoonetwork or fox in tha afternoon. and I hope she doesn't think that south park is a kids show since that it's animated, and it's one of tha best shows just like Simpsons. but Simpsons is better then South Park.

Sigh. Walt Disney has a lot to answer for.

Explain to her that like any art form, you can use it to entertain children... in drawing and painting you have childrens story books... in music you have Raffi and Fred Penner... and so on... writing, dance, theatre. But that hardly means that their isn't music for adults, art for adults.

Why is animation any different? Why is it "just for kids"?

Thanks fishy, and the rest for your input :) I can deal with her not liking the show, as long as she respects the fact that I like it. Hell... I grew up on the Simpsons, and it seems like the Simpsons grew up with me as well!! If this is "just a kid's show", why is it on many lists for the TOP SITCOMS OF ALL TIME?? Why does Homer go to Moe's every night to drink (or get a prescription for medicinal marijuana, for that matter)? Why is there a book on the philosophical and religious undertones from this one show? This is obvious for so many reasons that it's enjoyed by many, but the majority of fans is probably adult!!!

Final result: she has to at least put up with the show to prove her sense of humour exists, you get sex for sounding sensitive to her feelings and for being man enough to admit you were wrong.

Then dump the bitch anyway.

Yeah, like "Rocky and Bullwinkle" was a kids show! In both cases, there were elements of humor that only adults would understand and find funny, and not because it was ribald, but because it was sophisticated. Kids who think the Simpsons is a "kid's show" don't understand the jokes about Lincoln Savings and Loan, the Movementarians, Race Bannen being one of the astronauts Homer flies into outer space with, etc.

I'm 22 and I don't get any specific joke about Lincoln Savings and Loan or Race Banyon (is that a Speed Racer joke?). I understand that Mark Twain said, "Jokes are like frogs- when you dissect them, they die." Probably in the days where you got fresh frogs instead of stiff ones in a bucket of formaldehyde. But please to exPLAIN it.
