Contrary to popular belief, this episode has not been shown on WNYW since before 9/11, despite multiple airings elsewhere. I too urge people to vote for it just to see if they'll actually run it.
I've seen it on Fox 5 since the attacks, at least once.
I've written Fox 5 via e-mail, and they state that the episode has not been played since March 2001.
I haven't seen it on FOX 11 in Southern California since before 9/11. What's the deal?
The Critic is still shown all the time on Comedy Central with it's WTC images and even the Anaheim "World of Disney" store has a WTC painting on one of it's many walls near the ceiling. Painted before 9/11. Fox can't be more PC than Disney.

A (possibly identical) painting is still in the World of Disney in Orlando, with a Daisy Duck Statue of Liberty in front of the Twin Towers. Just noticed it this summer.
I'm fairly certain that Fox5, the affiliate in the New York City area, aired it about two months after the attacks. Haven't seen it since, though.
I'm not one for PC censorship, but I do think it's probably best to keep this episode under the radar for a while, though a total ban is revisionist. But it makes no sense that "New Kids on the Blecch," which is more offensive by leaps and bounds, isn't similarly "banned." When can we bring it back? Maybe another two years, making five total. God knows we lived through periods without Seinfeld's "The Puerto Rican Day Parade" and "The Contest" in the syndication package for political reasons and the world didn't fall apart.
But as much as the supposed ban is a twinge ludicrous, a movement to show it is just the same. The syndicators ran those episodes into the ground a few years back. Ugh, 2001: Mike Scully was still showrunner, the DVDs hadn't come out yet, and the ONLY episodes shown in syndication were seasons 9-11 (ironically enough). It was a dark time for Simpsons fans. I could probably recite "Marge Simpson in: 'Screaming Yellow Honkers'" verbatim if I needed to, considering it ran at least twice a month for about two years, and I may shoot my TV if I ever have to sit through "Maximum Homerdrive" again. I could really go without seeing any episode crediting "Executive Producer Mike Scully" for a decade or so, thanks.
4F22 is as sub-standard as anything produced in that era, IMO; about as "real" a portrayal of New York City as any given episode of Friends. I think the only thing noteworthy about it was the first appearance of Duffman. Ian Maxtone Graham's track record is probably as checkered as Scully's..
You're wrong. I e-mailed them about this very subject and they stated that they haven't aired it since March of 2001.
Firstly, it's unlikely that this scenario is realistic. Fox 5, among other affiliates, were only airing seasons 9-11 at the time. That's maybe 65 episodes, three times a day (IIRC). March through September is, what, ~20 weekdays a month, 3 times a day, for 6 months? 360 airings, not even including the weekend syndication schedule. It would be statistically near impossible for the episode not to have aired at *least* once during that time.
Secondly, "Fox 5" saying that the episode hasn't aired means bobkes. The people at a company who are assigned e-mails? Low-level interns who've been at the company less than a year, usually. I've been one of them. I'm not going to put any more faith into an answer from the e-mail staff at Fox 5 than I do the incompetent e-mail staff from any other company.

You're not the only person who has mistakenly though he/she has seen it (or passed off some bullshit) on Fox 5.
I repeat again: Fox 5 has not shown this episode since March of 2001. This is what they say, not me.

In the NY Simpsons episode, Homer is waiting outside of the WTC while that device is locked on to his car's wheel, right? How about they remove all of the full shots of the WTC from the episode. How many seconds could that possibly be? Let's say that, while Homer is at ground level, somehow viewers are still "traumatized" by recognizing that the building in the background is the WTC - change the background to something else. When he runs upstairs in the building, add a shot of a different building to make it look like he is running up the stairs of a different building. The content of the story will basically remain the same. If, after all those edits/add-ins...that the ep would still be considered an "insensitive" episode -that would just be ridiculous. New York City is the subject/backdrop for a countless number of movies, tv shows, plays and novels.
If they added/took out parts -they could run that version in syndication and for the purists, they could eventually offer the uncut version of the episode on DVD -for people that can "handle it".
That's a stupid idea and Gracie Films certainly isn't going to spend money re-animating or re-recording lines on something they did nine years ago. They're not George Lucas, you know.

I'm not sure how mad America went on the day of "The Last One" but Channel 4 did about 12:30pm to 21:30 with back to back Episodes, with only a few hours break for the news, Richard and Judy (Chat show, that day about Friends) and Gameshow Countdown.
The Simpsons starts on Channel 4 in a few weeks, (they got the rights from BBC) and will probably show every episode so many times the tape will burn out.

What happened was a tragedy, but changing an old episode of a tv show because it shows the Twin Towers? Come off it. What about shows like "Mad About You", "Sex And The City" and "Friends" which feature backdrops of the city in cut scenes. You can still see the Twin Towers here. Should THESE also be changed? I think these should be LEFT ALONE, as memories of when the world was a more peaceful place.
What's done is done and y'all need to GET OVER IT.
