The kids being up around 4:30AM to hear the Nobel Prize receiptiants is a spoof of the Oscar and Emmy nominations ceremonies. When it comes to these ceremonies, the event is usually held 5:30AM Los Angeles time so that way the event can be covered on morning shows like Today and Good Morning, America. Also, the screens in the background during the ceremony is similar to the screens once used in these ceremonies back when there were at most five nominations per category.
For those asking, yes, Spiderman was a regular character in the original 1970's version of The Electric Company.
