Notes for JABF05 (Revenge is a Dish Best Served Three Times)

Special three-story episodes like this one are getting more frequent these days. Given that the show is in its 18th season, this does make sense, as it allows more freedom for new and funny material without the constraints of the show's reality. And indeed, tonight the stories themselves were rather amusing vignettes (except maybe some of "Revenge of the Geeks"), but the wraparounds really didn't do it for me, except in fact for the lesson to learn from RotG! Most of the other transitions seemed like rejects from 2F33, and the meta material after Bart's story seemed more like an excuse than a joke. So the lesson for the writers to learn, perhaps, is to tighten up that stuff as much as possible and focus on the story content. As a parting thought, it's too bad I didn't have any kettle chips on hand, since I totally would have eaten them if only to amuse myself.

DYN: ...Homer gains and loses his hair as he grows up in the couch gag? (See also the first story) ...Homer says "[o]oh the the" in the France story? ...each story has a particular joke about being alive? ...each story also has its title written on-screen? (Most non-TOH storytelling episodes don't, though I saw unaired titles for HABF01 in Don's listings, and "One Step beyond Forever" lists them for DABF08 too.)

Other note So far, the JABF episodes have been going in a really weird order: 02, 01, 03, 05; and 04 and 07 are the next two to come up! Is it possible none will air in consecutive order?

(For those keeping score at home, assuming 22 episodes in season 18, and 22 JABFs, that means 7 holdovers again; since it's not unlikely for them to go wildly out of order, that leaves 9 or so episodes to permute this spring. It could be done!)

Phil Hartman could have done a skit about us on Saturday Night Live. "The Anal-Retentive Simpson's Fan". If you don't remember his "Anal Retentive Chef", "Anal Retentive Carpenter", or his "Anal Retentive Fisherman" skits, TOO BAD!
