I don't think they need to. They made a huge amount of money, which Burns threw back to them at the end. With this money, they no longer need the advertisement, as they have covered all the cost of repairs to the church.
Everything can go back to normal without it being a lack of continuity.
Maybe, but I assume the church would revert to normal seeing as how they got their money from Mr. Burns.
