If You Could Own A Pinball Machine, Which One Would You Own?

Ok let's say your parents are going to let you turn the other half of the basement(the half that isn't your bedroom) into a Man Room, having a nice HDTV for the big games, a pool table, and either a pinball machine or arcade machine.

I was thinking maybe I should tell them I want Ms. Pac Man, because I really do, but you know I can play that on my lil controller thtat you plug into the tv.

So I figured a pinball machine is the way to go.

I don't know much about pinball machines, but I was thinking maybe The Simpsons pinball machine, The Adams Family pinball machine, or the Playboy pinball machine.

So I'm asking people that would know, what is a good pinball machine and if you could only have one pinball machine, what would that be?

I've known ppl who owned pinball machines and it is kind of fun. You can buy them for not all that much money but you have to fix them if they break.

One of Steve Kordek's best. The animated puck is cool! You can score goals but the other player can still beat you by points. I don't remember anyone ever beating me by both points and goals though:)

There were two of these at Expo last year and were played constantly.

BUT, I noticed a speaker in the head. Is this just where the speaker was placed, or does this have speech? ONE prototype was produced with speech and I would like to know what the game said. IPDB stated this a while ago and I still wonder what happened to this game!

Sorry but I view my rooms with the Pins as a Gameroom or Arcade... Man room would have a Bar, Pool table and a Stripper pole!!!

With many of the new poles they sell these days you can move them around, we have one in the bedroom/upstairs lounge as it's the biggest room in the house. But it's totally removable, no mounting hardware or anything.

There is no one game that is the best. There are probably 100 or so games that are great and then the rest. I would not rely on any poll or subject matter on this. You have to own 1 and then decide how far to take it. If you can make a list for 10 games and maybe rotate some you will be much happier.

One word bro: maintenance. Owning a pin is an investment; the physical nature of the gameplay lends itself to the machine breaking over time. Make sure you either have the knowhow to fix it yourself (instructions for common break-fix'es are available for free online), or have the $ to pay a vendor from your area to do the repairs.. I owned a Cyclone pinball for awhile a few years ago and although it's a lot of fun, you have to be prepared to fork over for when it breaks- flippers and switches are examples of common issues. Mine had a display board go out, and since Cyclone is an older pin, there aren't many replacements available anymore.

Really for most people it makes more sense to go out and spend $5 to play a local pin than to buy one for $1700+, sacrifice the space in their home for it, and be responsible for the cost of maintaining it. I'm not trying to discourage you, just be aware there are strings attached. Of course many pins are in the homes of collectors now and are not available locally, so buying your fave may be the only way to play it at this point. It's a great hobby and pastime- too bad only Stern of Chicago stills makes them; hope the industry doesn't go belly-up in a few years..
