This is an allegation without any proof, just for those who might take it for established fact. What was established was that the US secretly sold weapons to the Iranians in the hope that they'd assist in freeing the hostages held in Lebanon, and the profits from such sales were used to fund the Contras, in violation of law.

The weapons sold cannot be described as WMD, as they were not chemical, biological or nuclear in nature. Many of the weapons were desperatley needed spare parts to repair the Iranian's fleet of F-14 Tomcats the Shah bought in the mid 1970's. To be honest, we did sell items which could be used to make WMD's to Saddam. American support for Iraq was one of those "lesser of two evils" conundrums that often arise in international diplomacy.
