I don't think the Simpsons needs boner jokes, let alone the boner sound effect. Save it for Family Guy.
the boner joke disappointed me

you mean that show that got cancelled?
No, they mean the show that should get cancelled but gets renewed against all logic. Despite bad ratings and bad reviews, "Family Guy" is still on the air, which is most likely a result of Seth MacFarlane's deal with the devil. -------------------------------- You define yourself by your company, and by the promises you make and the ones that you keep.

I dunno, the only thing that even remotely appealed to me about that show was the Dad, and he seemed to be a blatant ripoff of Homer. Other than that, it was painfully unfunny.
But then again, I almost wet myself over the Popeye joke, so maybe I'm not the typical audience member.

Some of the gags were funny, but every show seemed to be a long sequence of disconnected (and usually vulgar) gags with a rather thin and/or preposterous story line to tie them together. Not to mention that the writers, assuming their audience to be none-too-perceptive, felt it necessary to pound every gag into the ground with a sledgehammer. Other than that Family Guy was okay.
I personally like Family Guy but I don't expect or want FG-like humor on "The Simpsons," and that is what the "boner" and "miniatures" jokes were.

It's not so bad! There have been SEVERAL subtle, laugh-out-loud moments on that show. It's not "The Simpsons", but when it's good, it can be very, very good.
for example.... ***************** (sign) QUAHOG REHAB CENTER Because Dude... It's Time. ***************** In that same episode, Brian goes off on a cocaine-fueled rant at the dinner table about society's decay, ending with "until you're mired in this FILTHY CESSPOOL and you can't ever get clean again!"
(family sits in shocked silence)
PETER: "You know what I haven't had in a while? Big League Chew." ****************** (Or when Peter and Lois were planning to have another baby:)
LOIS: "Come on, Stewie! What's the greatest thing that could happen to this family?"
STEWIE: "Hmmmm....."
(Stewie imagines the family sitting around the living room, reading magazines. Stewie sits in a tall-backed leather chair reading the newspaper. Lois' body is stuffed and functions as a bear-skin rug.)

No, he means the show that WAS NOT RENEWED, as of the past week or so. Try to keep up.
Dr Music P.S. Parking was ample.
Bouncing boobs and a boner. Now that's quality comedy. (The whole soccer mummy premise was lame anyway.)

Lame how? I'm just surprised no one in Hollywood has thought of it yet. I thought it was a hilarious send-up of the STUPID ideas that pass for movies these days. Especially sports movies.
I think that's the trick..it's not just a "boner joke" it was making fun of stupid movies that come out these days...

I agree 1005, just watch the promos for Academy Award winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr in "Sled Dogs" or whatever the hell it's called. "Soccer Mummy" is better than the crap they're cranking out these days. Sincerely, Little Girl
But not in the context of an Ed O'Neill movie.
It's the kind of crude, stupid humor you'd expect from something like that.
Moe's phone call was, however, unnecessary and disturbing...

What's with this 'soccer mum' business anyway - what does it mean?
Soccer is our national game over here, yet I don't here the term used.
Soccer Mom ("o" in America, "u" in England or Australia, I suppose) refers to that segment of middle-class suburban housewives who tend to have kids, and kids to tend to play soccer, to which the Moms are always driving them in minivans.
It's a demographic stereotype that is often meant as a bit of slam.
...and it's "soccer", not "football" Real football involves 22 endomorphs standing around doing nothing for 25 seconds at a time punctuated by ball spiking and funny dances. ;-)
Yea, and I've NEVER before seen a soccer player flail around violently tearing off his/her clothes and kissing team mates crotches after scoring a goal...
Uh huh, OK.

They call them "Succer Moms" in England and Australia? A bit naughty, don't you think?

Agreed, 100%. It wasn't even funny.
Me too. If it had actually been funny I wouldn't be complaining.

People seem to be missing the satire. It mocks all those stupid movies; by going a step further that movies like "The Mighty Ducks" and that baseball one (with Keanu Reeves), it shows how stupid and crappy they are. While movies like "Mighty Ducks" make it on fart jokes, the highlight of "Soccer Mummy" is a boner joke.
I agree with this comment 100%. This gag satirizes the horribly stupid sex and other vulgar references you see in countless Hollywood movie trailers.

I think it was mainly a set-up for Homer's line. You would expect him to be saying "it's a laugh of shame" or something like that. They needed a crude joke to set that up.

Oh, I got it. And I still didn't think it was funny.
I guess because as soon as I saw the boobs, and I was cringing, hoping they wouldn't go there. Compare season 13 with season 1. How crude does the show need to get? Seeing as how the funniest gags in this episode were non-offensive (well, OK "Stop banging my wife!" wasn't, but at least that was funny), I don't see why the writers have to constantly prove what they can get away with. And by writers, I mean Network TV writers for almost every show out there.

crude
I also agree 100%. As is the Simpson way, the preview sequence was designed to *make fun of* movies. That portion of the episode was intended to impugn the movie-making industry, not advocate it. As such, this particular joke served its purpose quite well, and that's why I enjoyed it.
