A quick google search finds no other mention of this, except those links related the cancellation rumors that happened back in April, which Groening proceeded to deny, and which are probably behind this rumor as well. I'm not saying it's not going to happen, but I'm also not going to believe until I hear it from an official source.

Exactly how fast do you think google crawls? It can't index every page every day. Or anywhere close. I'm not disagreeing with what you're saying but I don't think searching google for a new rumour is likely to be that useful.
well, I just saw that when I was looking up something on the site and I thought it was weird because the date was so recent. No one else had posted anything about it, so I thought I would at least send it on.
of course if you go back to the website now, it is gone. I guess it may not be true???
