The end credits gave recognition to Thomas Pynchon for a guest voice- this would be quite the coup for the Simpsons. Pynchon is my favorite author, esp. Gravity's Rainbow, but is very reclusive, as the show indicated. He has seldom been photographed and refuses interviews.
I would feel so complete if my favorite author was really on my favorite show.

Getting J.D. Salinger would have been more impressive.

It makes much more sense if they just got Tom Pynchon, who runs the FOX mailroom, to read the line. Its much less trouble than trying to deal with the real Thomas Pynchon, and probably cheaper. You still get the obscure, upscale joke. And if the real TP is as reclusive as JD Salinger, we'll never hear of any demand for a correction.
