The Smither's Theory

Maybe Smither's isn't really gay at all. Maybe he has a weird relationship with Burns, like Lenny and Carl. He's prolly just been around Burns so long, they're joined at the hip.

Remember the "angel" episode? Smithers even said it.

Now, it could be that Smithers is smitten with Mr. Burns, but no other men. In other words, Smithers is attracted to the man rather than the gender. One could argue that before the polarization that arose when homosexuality was defined, a lot of same-sex relationships were that way. If there's no "you must be gay or heterosexual" edict, then someone might easily flow into a relationship with the same sex, and when it ended, go on to whoever they were attracted to next.

Using this theory, one could argue the case that Lenny and Carl are intimate, no matter what their marital status with others, but are not what is commonly called homosexual.

Now, in Smither's case, there seems to be secondary information (his all-male vacation, the stereotype of his Malibu Stacy doll collection, others that I can't remember) which indicates that Smithers is not simply smitten with Mr. Burns, but is indeed outright gay.

It has been stated by Groening, etc. that he is gay. My question relates to the gay pride parade that went in front of the Simpson house. two people were in the outhouse? yelling out that they were proud to be in the closet (or something to that effect) anyway, one was Smithers. Was the other one Patty Bouvier? Sure sounded like her, and she pees standing up!
