You know, you may be on to something. Is it possible they've decided to reserve any new episodes already in the can, so that they can run a fake 16th season? (Kind of like Futurama's last season)?

The shows for this season were in the can long ago. It's typical. They'll show reruns, then one or two new eps before the season ends.

After the strike is over a "new" season will consist of just 4 episodes plus a Halloween episode season opener broadcast in January. :rolleyes:

So they just record the voice work for two episodes a week instead of one until they catch up. Hardly going to be too strenuous to the poor luvvies. Or if comes to the worst they record a full week and actually earn their money.

Presumably by now they've already got about a third of the season well in production (not to mention the usual four holdovers from the season 15 block), so they've got months before they need worry about anything. The animation for the unvoiced episodes could go ahead regardless, and the voices dubbed on afterwards (it's the roundabout way of doing things, but not too difficult to do).

There might be some episodes lost at the end of the next season, but could just mean that the holdovers for Season 17 won't get made. Hardly the end of the world.

That actor known as "Rerun" passed away recently, and it is in honor of him.

It is. The Simpsons is one of the few animated programmes broadcast live. Most are not, due to the incredible strain on the animators' wrists.
