Fans praise Frank Costanza as a hilarious character, highlighting funny moments like his kasha scene, the bro episode, his yelling, and his army cooking flashback.
Am I the only one out there who thinks George's dad is hilarious?
Like the time he stayed with George because of marital problems and during the credits they were shown in bed watching TV and his dad offers him some Kasha and is trying really hard not to laugh.

You're not alone. He's my favorite character. The way he always screams and bops George on the forehead. I thought this season's episode where he cooked for Kramer (The Protege) was one of the funniest ever.
Yes!!!!!! The part where he had his flashback about cooking for the army. awesome show.

And we're getting to know so many more dimensions of his character as time goes on. He fell in love with a Korean woman, he went mad in the army, what's next for Mr. Kastanza senior?
Of course not! I've been a Stiller & Maera fan since the 60's. And Ben ain't too shabby, either. Could you imagine an intense family discussion in the Stiller house, especially if Ben's shadow Janeane was there too?

Well, according to several other posters to this group, both George's and Jerry's fathers were orginally played by someone different than they currently are. Here's a cut and paste from a message posted here on 10-24-96. I can't verify whether it's true, because I don't have copies of the original episodes, but this poster claims to have one on tape.

I'm sure that most of you know that the actor playing George's dad changed a few years back. But, did you know that they actually reshot some scenes for the syndicated broadcasts with the new dad (Stiller)? I mean, they show the reruns, but actually they are not reruns because they shoot the scenes with the original dad over again with the exact same lines, etc. Isn't that weird? Anybody know why they did this?? I have proof of this by the way; I have on tape two copies of an episode about a handicap parking spot (maybe that is the name of the episode?). One has the old dad, one has the current one.

Both George's and Jerry's fathers were originally played by different actors. But, while you can see the original "Morty Seinfeld" in the syndicated replays of the early episodes (before the role was re-cast with Barney Martin), the scenes featuring the original "Frank Costanza" have been re-shot (for syndication purposes) with Jerry Stiller replaying the scenes originally played by John Randolph (for example, in "The Handicapped Spot" episode: Jerry Stiller re-shot all the Frank Costanza scenes before the episode was released into syndication).
I am from England, where we are several series' behind you. We've just seen the change, so I can confirm that George's dad has been played by two different actors.
Not true -- several people who post here claim to have an early episode on tape with someone else playing Frank Costanza's part, and that it was later re-shot with Stiller so that the syndicated version uses Stiller. I can't prove it, but it seems to have been established in this newsgroup.

John Randolph played the character of Frank Costanza in this episode originally. Episode was reshot w/ Jerry Stiller for syndication version so as to not confuse viewers as to who George's dad was. Guess they failed in that regard.
WRONG! In the episode where George parks his father's car in the handicap space and the car is trashed, Frank Costanza is played by a bald guy who looks about 80 years old (nothing like Jerry Stiller).
I think she is thinking of Jerry's father.. Jerry's father isn't the same one as the first one..and the first one was only in one episode that I can remember (number 3, the stakeout).
