Van De Leigh Industries

I watched a rerun of Seinfeld the other night. George had to show that he was looking into a job to keep his unemployment. While getting his extension, the lady asked him where he had been applying. George said Van De Leigh Industries. I've hear of George lie about some guy, Art Van DeLeigh. How else has he abused the Van De Leigh name???

In the episode where Elaine is trying to get George a job where she works (it's also the episode where Jerry unknowingly causes an alcoholic to fall off the wagon), her boss is interviewing George at a Christmas party. The guy asks George whom he likes to read. George first mentions a sportswriter, and then when pressed to give an author's name, he hesitates and then says, slowly, "Art Vandelay". The man says he's never heard of him, and asks George what Vandelay has written. George says, "Venetian Blinds".
