Fans discuss when the live audience started cheering for Kramer's entrances like they did for the Fonz on Happy Days, when it stopped, and why the practice was discontinued.
Something I've always wondered, but been too lazy to ask. In several of the 1993/94 episodes (I believe they're from those years), there's some loud audience cheering the first time Kramer makes an appearance (akin to the reaction the audience would give Fonzie on Happy Days). Then, all of a sudden, it stops. And the cheering's never heard again.
My question is: when (and why) did it start? and why did it stop? Anyone know?

I imagine it started because it's a common (if cheesy) practice done by audiences to show their appreciation of a character; I'm not sure when they started doing it for Kramer's trademark entrances, however. I believe it was stopped by the producers since it disrupted the flow of the show. And because it was cheesy. :-)
I heard it was stopped at Richards' request. It ruined his timing. Imagine if you often have to bust through a door and deliver a line, but you have to wait for applause to die down each and every time? It would drive me crazy.

I'm afraid I chose my side on this one a long time before you got involved in the matter - Usenet vandals go into my killfile. What you're doing is analogous to a previously considerate neighbour suddenly blaring their music at all hours, and expecting us to put up with it just because *you're* having fun. But you're right in that I can remove your pollution from my environment here a lot more easily than sound waves from the air. I just think it's a bit disappointing that you'd put me in that position. But much more than that, I think it's incredibly disappointing that you would treat this NG in this way. It's perfectly possible that other people who might stumble across here, and have something valuable to add, will not do so because of the mess you and your new friends are leaving. It is a fact that you will all be pushing posts off servers so non-regulars may miss out. Have you considered those things?

try having a look 11minutes 30 seconds into "the fix up" this is as i believe was the first time CK was cheered as he entered a scene, i have no idea as to the last time it happened... i don't know everything, gimme a break, i work hard and all i get is grief.
