No, this was meant to be a joke. The woman was shouting "I'll never forget you ... Norman" instead of Newman.

I'm pretty sure he's been called Norman in two episodes. This one you're talking about, and The Barbershop (or what ever it was called) with that Enzo guy who does an awful haircut to Jerry. When Newman's getting a haircut and Jerry walks in (Enzo already suspects Jerry's been "cheating" him), Enzo says "Norman here is a good customer".. or something similar. Anyone else remember this? I'll have to check this out sometime..

I think you are remembering what the Finnish close captioning said. This was an error from the translator. Of course that Italian accent is a bit indistinct.

Nah I don't think the name he said was put on the subtitles. Of course it's possible that he said Newman and I just every time heard it as Norman, but still..

Perhaps this has been noted before but in The Kiss Hello when Kramer sticks up everyone's photo in the lobby with their name on it, Jerry and everyone else has their first name written up. Whereas on Newman's picture it says "Newman". This makes it fairly plain that not revealing the first name was not just accidental. If it had ever been revealed it would have been made a big deal of as was Kramer's Cosmo; it wouldn't have been something that could be easily missed. (IMHO obviously)

The "Norman" reference at the end of "The Bottle Deposit" was actually a blooper by the actress. It was left in the episode as aired, rather than reshot, because it fit with the rather dim character she played and came off as funny. (A lot of goofs and ad libs made it on the air on Seinfeld---probably more than on most series.)

Newman was never given a first name on the show. Even his business card just said "Newman." Yet another running joke, and maybe another loose end that might be tied up if there's ever a reunion movie. (NBC keeps promising Jerry more and more money if he'll restart the series, but so far he and Larry David say no. The only thing they won't rule out is a one-shot reunion film which could be either a TV or theatrical film, but so far that's years away from happening, if it ever comes about. There isn't even a script or treatment for such a film as of now.)

When Elaine lent the woman from Doubleday Mr. Pitt's tennis racket, I thought I heard Jerry say: "Hank Newman's got one of those". It still sounds like that to me, but since a point was made of only calling Newman, erm, "Newman", he probably said "Hey, Newman's got one of those".

No, I don't think so. He flew over to watch the trial, but he was never called as a witness.

Also, I thought it was strange that all of the character witnesses testified on Jerry's Elaine's and George's "character" but no one testified for Kramer. Perhaps he's 'bad' by association?!?
