To directly answer Sean's question, in "The Fatigues", Kramer was filling in for Lomez, his orthodox Jewish friend, in putting the Jewish singles function together. Lomez usually puts this function together, but he's in the Everglades. It is this episode where we confirm that Frank is Catholic, as he offered his K of C hall.

The irony is his best buddy Jerry is Jewish, so one could wonder why Kramer didn't ask Jerry for help. Therefore, it can be argued that the writers made this issue a bit of a joke.

Kramer: Yowza yowza. Check it out.

Jerry (reading): Jewish singles night?

Kramer: I expect you both to be there.

Elaine: I'm not Jewish.

Kramer: Well neither am I.

Jerry: Well why are you going?

Kramer: I'm not, I'm running it.

Kramer: Well Lomez, he usually runs it but he's in the Everglades.

Jerry: Lomez is Jewish?

Kramer: Oh yeah yeah yeah. Orthodox, Jerry. Old school.

Kramer: Yeah, Frank Costanza, he's getting me a room at his lodge. So Jerry, you know I'm really counting on you to come to this.

Yes they would. They would be on holidays with no other commitments - it is a great time for them to travel.

Christmas being such a huge happening in America I always thought it must affect all who live there, even if they don't "celebrate" it.

I don't celebrate christmas either, but I sure know when it is, and if I am doing something beyond everyday activities, there is no escaping that this is happening at "Christmas time".

Yup, and particularly so because George brings Christmas present to his parents, (mine would have had me shot on site).

Its a huge happening since I can be assured a good seat in any movie theater, but not one on a plane. Maybe it's a lousy and very expensive time for catering hall reservations.

Speaking for myself (only), I'd have to hide the Christmas time bit, unless I wanted it to serve the same purpose as taking up smoking.
