i just watched the summer of george episode yesterday, i didn't really know who raquel welch (i hope i've spelt it right) was. she was the really bitchy woman that could handle being fired for not moving her arms about.
can someone please put me out my misery and tell me what other things she has done (movies and stuff, if any) cos i have heard of her.

This happens to me a lot when I ask someone about country music "stars". It usually goes something like: "...you don't know "The Dixie Chicks"? They're VERY famous."

I have mixed feelings about Stern; on the one hand, his show can be very funny, and after seeing the pseudo-autobiographical "Private Parts" I have a certain amount of respect for a schlub like him who climbs his way to success.
But on the other hand, this story about Stuttering John's rude comment to Racquel is a perfect example of the stupid, mean-spirited crap Stern and his staff sometimes pull. I recall seeing Bababooie (spelling?) walk up to Billy Crystal at an awards show, ask some cruel & inappropriate personal- life question (something about his children, perhaps?) and Billy--who seems like a genuinely nice guy--went from all-smiles to a frown and walked away. That kind of attack humor just isn't funny.

I was once shown around the wax museum in Guadalajara Mexico by a native. As I failed to recognise one anonymous dummy after another, my friend would insist but "they are *very* famous". (And then when I asked if there was a Salma Hayek, she said "who?"). On the other hand I do think it's possible for someone to be "very, very famous" and for an individual not to have heard of them. Taking sports for example, US viewers might think of Lou Gehrig (I'm guessing) for example as being "very, very famous". In the UK we might say the same about Michael Owen but I'm betting that name will largely draw a blank here. (He has captained the England football team.) Also you could read out the whole IMDB database to Indians in the Amazon and get no recognition. Doesn't mean than Julia Roberts isn't "very, very famous".
