Season Premiere

When is the Season Premiere? This coming Thursday at 9:30pm/est?

Well...what did everyone think? I thought it was great. I loved what they did with the funeral scene (George talking about the Yankees sweeping the Orioles), Jerry's easy break up w/ his fiance ("I Hate You"), Elaine smoking the cigar, Kramer describing the Katra, and oh...the irony of George's new Foundation ("Would I have had access to that? Oh Yes. And Now? Not"). I really liked it alot. It was cool. {clap, clap, clap}

I thought it was one of the most boring episodes of the last 3 seasons. The only funny part for me was Kramer beating up the kids and the kids beating up Kramer in the Alley.

I'm a Seinfeld junky and have come to love the incredibly fast paced plots and dialogue. This episode was for the most part neither fast-paced nor funny. Usually the shows are so jam-packed with funny scenarios side-plots, by the 12th minute, SO MUCH has happened, you're going "great stuff! still got about 15 minutes or so of entertainment left and I've already had so much fun so far!"

but for this episode by the 12th minute, I was still waiting for my first guffaw. Here's hoping this Larry David-less comedy writing gets better.

SO what did y'all think of "Suddenly Susan"? I thought it was better than I expected. Definitely better than "Caroline In The City".

I think that "Suddenly Susan" will find itself "Suddenly Cancelled." Judd Nelson? This guy hasn't had a job in ten years!

Typical of the cluelessness of the show was the scene in a bar in SAN FRANCISCO where Brooke Shields and her girlfriend are THE ONLY TWO WOMEN in the bar and the men are purportedly heterosexual! Give me a break! :-)

It's another example of the new wave of what I refer to as "content-free comedy." ABC had a new show on the previous night (also supposedly a comedy) starring MOLLY RINGWALD, of all people! I can just see the meetings the execs at the networks must be having: "Hey, what formerly popular, washed-up Brat-Packers from the '80s can we build a show around next?" Get ready for Anthony Michael Hall and Andrew McCarthy as a pair of goofy detective buddies! (I can just see some network programming executive reading this and a lightbulb going on above his head: "What an idea! Get me their agents on the phone! We'll use '3rd Rock From The Sun' as a lead-in!")

And while we're on the subject of content-free comedy, will someone please tell me WHY Jonathan Silverman is starring in a sitcom? This guy is not funny and he can't act! The ONLY thing he's ever done in his LIFE before this piece of dreck was "Weekend At Bernie's" in which he played a supporting role to a STIFF! And the stiff was funnier!

I enjoyed it more than most episodes from last season. They're sticking with the individual story lines but they were interesting. Jerry's breakup was truly "unbelievable." I'm surprised you didn't mention Delores' (Mulva) return. I thought she looked great as a blond. I'm sad that this will be the last season but it's off to a great start!

I forgot about Mulva, but that was good. I like how he kept saying her name over and over. Like he did when he dated Lois. I also liked how they talked about the summer like they just kept living except we didn't get to see any of that. Pretty cool, Kramer didn't even notice Elaine was gone for 6 weeks. Brilliant.

As for this being the last season, they've been saying that for the past 2 seasons. Now that Jerry has the freedom to do what he wants, maybe they won't feel like stopping. Hope not.

Actually, it's very logical that they would each realize they wanted to break of the engagement at the same time. (Jerry showed some prescience from last season's finale.)

He repeated the name Lois because he liked the sound of it -- his Superman fixation. He repeated the name Delores (or Dolores) in an effort to make up for all the time he was with her without knowing her name.

By the way, the karate kids going after Kramer was like the AIDS walkers going after him. Each time he tried to escape by climbing a fire escape ladder in the alley. (Could this also be from a movie, such as M or FREAKS?)

Some of you may remember my observation at the end of last season. I opined that Jerry and the Janeane Garofalo character would not get married for the simple reason that they think alike. Since Jerry ended the season not wanting to get married, and since his fiance thinks the same way he does, by the laws of logic she too would not want to get married. Sure enough, the writers picked up on this logic and engineered the first mutual break-up between Jerry and Jeanie. Perfect! This is exactly how things should unfold. Good job, writers.

Didn't the ending of "The Invitations" make this perfectly clear.
