Watching Ellie - Strike Two

Two strikes and she's out.

And this week we were treated to someone actually sitting on a toilet. Ooh, how funny!

The show should and will, I trust, be canceled. In any event, I won't watch. Good riddance.

I didn't think the show was all that bad. It's cute. But I think someone nailed it in here when they said that because the show is in "real time" all the episodes are going to have to be about things with time-constraints (i.e., getting the music out of the car in time for the show, etc.)

I like the show. It's a lot better than other shows on TV.

I'm hoping it'll pick up some pace in the next few weeks. I'm still getting used to it.

I didnt think it was that bad but since it has such a high standard to live up to it probebly will be cancelled

it looks like if it was a standalone comedy and she had not done seinfeld then I think it would be great but I found myself comparing it to seinfeld alot. the crazy assistant I thought could fill the kramer shoes (barely)

The way NBC is bragging about the ratings in the promos, it sounds like it's going to finish the season, barring an XFL-like drop-off.

Remember, this is the same guy who has repeatedly insisted that Seinfeld DVD's will be released this spring (in April), yet has never provided any support for the claim. He's also the one who insisted that the "R" on a Saab's fuel gauge stands for the French "rien", and rudely mocked those who disagreed. Of course, he was later proven wrong...

I keep waiting for wfc to bet someone dinner over one of these claims. :-)

I just got around to watching last week's premiere episode, and I was pleasantly surprised! After the reviews in here I expected it to be horrible, but instead it was decent. It's not the same as Seinfeld, of course, either in quality or style. Some of the comedy was subtle and not dialogue-based, like Ellie's attempt to contain the water in her bathroom. Or her chasing after her naked neighbor with a towel.

I can see why Seinfeld fans might have been discouraged if they were expecting "Seinfeld: The Next Generation", but I found Ellie an reasonably- enjoyable show in its own right.

LOL! You're right, I probably used the wrong word. Um, how to explain it...

If you read a Seinfeld script, it's funny. But some movies/shows (and some scenes in Ellie) wouldn't seem at all humorous on paper; the comedy is more visual. And not necessarily pie-in-the-face slapstick, or heavily scripted physical comedy.

Michael Richards' Kramer is a broader version of this--I'm sure many of the hilarious little quirks he used weren't scripted, but just little touches he added.

Don't get me wrong--I'm not saying Ellie was a standout hit, and I doubt I'll watch any more episodes. But it was funnier than the "Good News Bad News" first Seinfeld episode which was on earlier tonight in my area. :-)
