He must've begged Seinfeld to be there for the apology thinking people would forgive him if Seinfeld had something to do with the apology. It was funny people actually thought it was a joke or something and were laughing at him.

Richards career has been long gone since Seinfeld, It wasnt like he had a hit show or anything. This will be forgotten as time goes on

My guess is the opposite - that Seinfeld "ordered" Richards to appear on his Letterman gig in order to apologize, right before his Season 7 DVD hits the market, for damage control against DVD sales losses.

I am not sure about the DVD sales. But in any case, for Jerry, it is not about the money. Remember he turned down NBC's offer of $5,000,000 per episode - that would be well over $100,000,000 for a tenth season of the show.

He is not driven by the dollars but by being able to continue his art - stand up. It is the same reason Leno, who needs not a penny more, plays comedy clubs in the off-season. They love it.

By the way, its sad whenever one racial group lashes out at another. But. I will have to agree in this PC world there is a double standard when it comes to racism. I hear blacks speak condesending remarks about white people all the time on comedy shows, and everyone laughs. But a white guy says something its unacceptable. I don't condone any of this, but there is a double standard.

I actually don't think he said anything wrong. It's a comedy club. The black people were being rude to him, he was being rude back.
