The Soup (not the Soup Nazi)

This is the episode where we first meet Kenny ("Soup's not a meal!") Bania with the Armani suit (and George goes for a walk with Kelly from Monk's when she "calls an audible" and George steps "right in it").

When George first returns to Monk's since his "day-date" with Kelly, George orders from her a bowl of chili. However (and I noticed this watching this episode on my DVD last night), what he gets doesn't look like chili. It looks like tomato soup, and when Bania squeezes in, with Jerry encouraging him to get a sandwich, Bania orders tuna on toast plus, glancing at George's supposed "chili," tomato soup. ("Soup & sandwich. That's a meal. This completes the transaction.")

The question: Does George getting the tomato soup and not the chili he ordered constitute a "film flub" i.e., a mistake in continuity, plot, something else? Maybe they ran out of chili for the final take.

In one of the extra features (I don't recall which season or episode) Jerry mentioned that they do not actually eat doing a scene. A scene could be re-shot multiple times, and they want to avoid the situation of the actor literally getting stuffed doing multiple takes.

I have often wondered about that, eating plays a central part of their lives in so many episodes. I can't imagine how they could *not* eat in a great many cases. The show revolves around sex, eating, going to the movies, going to the toilet, sanitary habits, workplace problems, .... Things we can all relate to.

As I was reading this, I thought maybe it was done to show that she no longer likes him, so she gives him the wrong meal.

But if it was going to be that, I think they would have made it more obvious and given him something that you could tell wasn't chilli.......plus they would have emphasised the chilli order, more, to set up the joke.

I reckon someone didn't take it into account and all they had was tomato........or something like that.
