Also, the stand-up bit about the phone company calling and asking for more money, does that happen anymore? Has it ever happened to anyone here in the group? This is the first time I've heard of this phenomenon.

Yeah, the phone company did actually do that. They tell you your time is almost up and to deposit more money. Some times they would let you run over and then when the call was complete, they would immediatly call back asking for you to deposit the remainder. Yeah sure! I would always just walk off, looking over my shoulder of course for the phone police to give chase.
When I saw this episode I kind of thought about how 'dated' Seinfeld is. If Seinfeld were on today, they would be using their own cell phones. No more waiting in line for the public phone. And maybe no more answering machines since they'd be using wireless e-mail or something.
In a typical faculty meeting among my colleagues, our discussion always centers on what someone e-mailed to someone else. That type of discussion would probably occur in lets say a meeting between Elaine and J. Peterman, wouldn't you think?

If you use coins in phones and go over the limit they will still call you back. There have been times (yes recently too) that I'd be walking by a phonebooth with a ringing phone, I'd pick it up and it's invariably a phone operator saying I owe 25¢ or something. I have fun with them like Jerry does and say stuff like "Can you prove it was me?" or "I'll mail you the quarter"....still happens.
