As I do every Thursday I watched two episodes of Seinfeld - the syndicated and the new episode. Besides finding the new episode pretty boring I was struck by how dull and lifeless George has become. His passion for the trivial nonsense that he used to pursue has been replaced by a sort of shell of his former self. Either that or he just goes over the top like last week. The scene in the rerun where he squeezes the ketchup when Jerry tells him about the girls dirty talk was comic genius. The scene last night when he describes why his wallet is so stuffed was lifeless and contrived. Good bye George Costanza. We hardly knew ya.

I understand where you are coming from when you say that George does not have as many dimensions as he used to have, but the reason is quite simple: Larry David left the show. I personally don't agree that the writing quality and/or good fun on the show is gone, but Larry controlled George's character. Larry told him what to do, how to react, what to say, how to say it, etc. When Larry left, Jason just started to read the lines instead of act them out the way he used to.
Having said that, the bottom line for me is this: George is still funny IMO.
