It seems like releasing TV shows on DVD has become a common act in the US, though for the most part it's hour long drama's which are released (The X-Files, The Sopranos)...
Well finally a network sitcom (I say network because South Park and Sex And The City, both thirty minute sitcoms have been released on DVD, but both are also on cable channels, one is even on a pay network) is coming to DVD...Friends...
Now they're not releasing the whole series on DVD (yet), nor are they releasing any full seasons (which is what most shows do, releasing a whole season as one box-set). Instead, Friends is releasing "The Best of Friends" with what it calls the shows best ten episodes (though two episodes are hour episodes, so it kind of works out to twelve episodes if you really think about it)...
So now that a network sitcom has made it's way to DVD, this could open the flood-gates for other series...especially if this 2-set DVD (five episodes per DVD, full and uncut episodes I understand) sells well...
I'm thinking this could be the ticket a Seinfeld DVD set needs...I know a common "con" towards the chances of a Seinfeld DVD has been the syndication rights...there's too much money to be made in syndication rights...well, Friends is syndicated too, and I can't explain why, but a lot of people watch Friends, so there is syndication money to be made in it as well...
Though if a Seinfeld DVD comes out, it'll probably be a "The Best Of..." ala Friends, with the ten best episodes, but hey that's better then nothing, no?
Especially if they pick the right ten...I'd expect to see on it:
The Boyfriend (1 hour, but counts as one episode) The Contest The Chinese Restaurant The Parking Garage The Bubble Boy The Yada Yada The Marine Biologist The Outing The Junior Mint The Soup Nazi
Though I like all these episodes, I have personal favorites not on this list, but these are the most popular ten episodes (no?) and would probably make this DVD set...
Whatever episodes are on it, I'll be on line to buy it if it ever comes out...
