JLD's accent

JLD has a pronounced accent on words like "downtown". It comes out as "daowntown" She did it tonight on "now" which became "naow", which reminded me of this. As near as I can tell she grew up in the Washington DC, NYC area. Is this a common accent for that part of the country? I'm not aware of any other strangeness. Seinfeld is from LonG Island, which is the same general area and he doesn't have this trait.

While digging through her biography, I found her father is not a millionaire, as I had always thought. He is a billionaire.

Speaking a variety of accents is part of being an actor. I just watched a rerun of an episode (I think #6) from the first season in which a certain Tracy Kolis appears. She breaks up with Jerry because she thought his act was stupid and has a severe and rather bizarre accent in this episode. 6 or so seasons later she played a Monk's waitress who George tries to pick up, and I recall NO accent in that waitress-making-jewelry character.

In general, I think the NY/NJ area is home to more accents than the rest of the country combined, and only the most common are readily identifiable. Not forgetting the "acting" element...

AFA millionaires, between inflation, richer-getting-richer and the creeping in New World Order, being a billionaire today is what being a millionaire was in the 60's. IMHO.

Check out any of John Waters' films to hear the very pronounced 'Baltimore' accent. It's pretty distinct. Elaine, growing up in Towson, may have some traces of this accent.
