Question forom previous Seinfeld

I have a question about a previous Seinfeld episode.

It is about a joke that I guess I still don't understand.

It is from the episode from the 91-92 season, when George goes to pick Jerry up at the airport, and his car breaks down, and the decide to take "O'Brian" 's limo. Well, O'Brian turns out to be the leader of the Aryan Union (or something like that). For those who have seen this episode you may remember at one point wher J. and G. are in the limo with Eva and that guy (can't remember his name), and George starts humming some song and Jerry smacks him to get him to stop singing this song. It must be some t

ype of anti-nazi or pro-jewish song, because Jerry did not want these two nazis that he was riding with to hear this song.

My question is this: what is the name of the song, and what is its significance?

The song that George was humming in "The Limo" was "If I Were a Rich Man", from "Fiddler on the Roof". The play is about the plight of a Jewish family in early 1900's Russia. Definitely not the tune someone like O'Brian would have been humming although we can't put it past George!

That's the point. Imagine humming a song about Russian Jews in a limo full of Nazis. Also, I believe Jason Alexander did "Fiddler" on stage at some point, so this reference is even more "profound".

Did anyone else see this song in the movie Hollywood Knights? This movie was a great one indeed, costarring a very young Michelle Pfeifer and Tony Danza (a few more people too). The guy who was siging "IIWARM" played a geek in this movie, but the actor eventually went on to star in "Not Necessarily the News" and some other stuff. Also, another actor in HK had a bit part in the Madonna video for "Material Girl" (she's the biggest star in the world...etc.).

The actor you're referring to is Stuart Pankin (I think), from NNTN. He played the geeky honor student with the violin in HK.

Well, The Hollywood Knights is a great movie--truly great, and more people should check it out. The guy who played Dudley ("the geek," although I'd describe him as more of a nebbish) was Stuart Painkin, who *did* go on to do "Not Necessarily The News." Also, I wonder if the recently reported rise in cigar sales (for the first time since 1964) is due to Kramer...
