Kosher is No Joke

I don't know about anyone else, but I was offended by the lobster incident. First of all, people don't generally decide whether to keep kosher on a day to day basis - this is a serious commitment. So when Rachel went to sneak a piece of lobster as if she were just cheating on a diet, I was rather upset. Now, the fact that she was eating their food at all hints to a somewhat relaxed attitude about kashruth, but still ...

Second, for George to violate her deeply help religious beliefs by putting lobster in the eggs goes beyond the ususal George-ness into sick sadism. Plus, it answers the question as to whether George is Jewish or not, since no Jew in his/her right mind would do such a thing.

I think you're being a little thin skinned here. I know many Jewish students here who "cheat" on keeping kosher, and don't take it as seriously as you. Are you upset because you believe that Jews like this don't exist and the show was in error, or because they would dare to show a less than perfect Jew?

Maybe you missed the part where she ruined George's relationship. The revenge seemed pretty appropriate to me.

Watching the showh a bunch of Jews(my family) when the scence appeared my dad said I bet she is going to sneak a bite of lobster. Sure enough she tried. We all thought it was funny and cute. What was so wrong about it? It was her choice.

Of course a fellow Jew would never do such a thing. But it was kind of obvious what George was going to do.

Actually, it doesn't I seriously doubt that George is in his "right" mind, especially after the fiasco with his latest girlfriend, the night before. I do get the feeling the at least George's parents are Jewish, even if he is not. In fact, his mother was playing Mah Jong (A tile game played by Jewish women in America) in one episode. The paella makes me wonder if perhaps he's descended from Spanish Jews instead of Italian ones.

Okay, since she went to the kitchen to sneak lobster, then its clear that she didn't really keep kosher.

But remember. These are FICTIONAL CHARACTERS. They do not really exist! Well, at least none of them but Kramer and maybe Jerry Seinfeld ...

No one listened to me when I said George wasn't Jewish... shouldda listened. I find this to be the MOST important evidence that George is not Jewish.

The other Jewish Seinfeld characters are not Kosher observant.

My experience (as a Kosher observant person in a family with almost no other relatives who keep Kosher) is that non-Jews often have more respect for Kashrut than do Jews who don't keep Kosher. My non-Jewish friends are usually willing to go to greater lengths than my nonobservant Jewish ones to accommodate my religious practices.

I don't find this episode to be convincing proof of George's Gentility.

George's actions concerning the lobster in the egg should not be taken as a sign of his non-jewishness. George has, particularly lately, been known for violating various norms of society. The most obvious example was his trampling of women, children, and senior citizens in order to escape from a fire. What is feeding lobster to a kosher-following person compared to his actions the previous week? They are indicators of George's own problems (that he may resolve tonight, it sounds from the TV guide description) rather than because he is jewish or not.

George wasn't successful so he wasn't Jewish. He was apparently bar mitzvahed on 5/19 though since he became successful! :) And we've got all summer to ponder that! :)

I'm Jewish, and I've got a friend from Israel who keeps Kosher very seriously. He gives me grief constantly for eating bacon-double-cheeseburgers and what not, and sometimes it really, really gets on my nerves.

One time, in a bar, we order an apetizer of potato skins. I went to the bathroom, and when I returned, he was eating the potato skins, telling me, "There's fish in here." I realized it was the bacon, and laughed about as hard as a man could laugh.

And, If I had been looking forward to having sexual intercourse to a woman I found very, very desirable, and if this kosher friend ruined that for me --- hell, I'd get him.

George may not be Jewish, but his act of vengence reveals nothing. The vast majority of jews in America think keeping Kosher is, to be polite, extremely unimportant.

What about Kramer "stealing" Too you, stealing is 'ok' (or not that big of a deal) but screwing with Kosher.... look out.....

Keep it in context! In other words get a life. if you want to "offended" by something why not tune into the news and check into some world events (e.g. Rwanda, Bosnia, etc...) Or the way Rosty is trying to plea bargin from felony......
