When did Jerry start drinking coffee?

He told Bookman that he doesn't drink coffee . . . but he does throughout the series. When did he start?

   This is off the top of my head ... but I seem to remember an episode
where Jerry says he goes out for his coffee (to Monks?).
   Maybe one of the NG members who has every episode memorized (I've seen
them all, but I haven't gone that far) will remember this.

You know, this brings up another inconsistancy in the writing. It's a little unfair since it involves the pilot but still......in the pilot Claire brings out two pots of coffee, "decaf left, regular right, very challenging work". She gives Jerry the regular and George the decaf. Later in "The Dog" when Elaine and George are making fun of Jerry George mentions that Jerry doesn't drink caffine even though morning thunder has caffine in it..........

You know what? I remember that, too. "I get my coffee on the outside!!"

You buy a jar of Folger's Crystals, you put it in the cupboard, you forget about it. Then later on when you need it, it's there. It lasts forever. It's freeze-dried. Freeze-dried Crystals.

Really? I'll have to remember that.

I have also often thought of that inconsistency because Jerry drinks a lot of coffee other times.

But he does say he 'goes out for coffee'.(or something like that.)

But look at the quote in context. It may have been a 'knee jerk' defensive response to Bookman's aggressive line of questioning??

Ahhh, but Bookman says he'd be happy with instant coffee -- Folger's crystals ... same preperation time as tea ... stick the cup of water in the microwave, then add the crystals ... no, that excuse doesn't work either.

Okay, maybe you have a point about the time involved; But anyone who knows anything about the enjoyment of REALLY GOOD instant coffee knows you mix in the crystals FIRST, then heat the prepared coffee. Call Folger's or Taster's Choice or any of those guys and ask. Those toll free numbers aren't just for show!

you are) to come up with the episode where Jerry says he goes out for his
coffee ... several of us Seinfeld non-geniuses have posted that we
remember that he said it ... now somebody has to come up with the episode
and the exact conversation.<
   Come on, if we can't answer that ...<

I remember the quote: something along the lines of: i dont keep coffee in the house, i go out for coffee! .... another thing i happen to notice about coffee, i remember seeing Chock Full o Nuts in Jerry's cupboards... it seems like a silly thing to remember but it always seems to catch my eye.

Jerry says to George in an irritable tone that he "gets his coffee on the outside" in the Contest episode. They were both irritable due to their lack of self-satisfaction....
