Jerry Hosting SNL

I read that there's a rumor that NBC has booked Jerry to host Saturday Night Live's season opener. (25th Season) Neither the network nor Seinfeld's people would confirm or deny.

Wow. That would be something. I mean, SNL is a mere shell of its former self, but being selected to host a season opener is still an honor.

Sigh. But I'm sure the following Monday people will be trying to sell copies of the tape for $10 at ebay.

lol! and why are they following Monday anyway? and where are they following Monday to? These are questions we all deserve answers to!

NBC would LOVE to get Jerry back into their schedule with some sort of regular or even occasional presence...they are HURTING bigtime in the Nielsens. This would be the best way for them (and for him if he's interested) to start. You may remember Jerry's last guest hosting shot on SNL in 1994. It might have been the single strongest and funniest SNL episode of the decade. The guy showed himself not only to be skilled at filmed sitcoms, but an adept live sketch performer (and we always knew he could do great standup). And that one week, he basically took over the writing of the show. The Nielsens that week responded accordingly.

     SNL would be immeasurably improved with Jerry as permanent host/head
writer. (A lot of people forget that the show originally was conceived by Lorne
Michaels with a permanent host in mind...it was going to be either George
Carlin or Albert Brooks, but neither man was interested in the fall of 1975.
Carlin was willing to do one guest host slot, on the premiere...then Michaels
went to the rotating guest host format afterward.)
     I doubt that a "Saturday Night Live Starring Jerry Seinfeld" would ever
happen...though if it did, you have to believe Jerry would enjoy it and the
audience would love it.
