NBC execs and the Seinfeld cast and crew should be thanking Frank Sinatra.
His unfortunate death on the same night as the finale saved them and the rest
of the media from having to stand up to the scrutiny they should have endured
for the product they put out last night and the overblown hype they all
participated in to build it up. Fortunately for all of them, the media
attention today could be directed on Sinatra and not on Seinfeld, sparing all
the ET, ShowBiz Today, and like shows from having to do much more than possibly
make a passing comment on the finale.
I am a Seinfeld fan, but I thought this show was poorly done... it almost
seemed to me as though they didn't care. I thought the quality was declining
this year, and this episode capped it. Good decision to not continue the
series- bad decision to go out like this. The show will go down in history as
one of the best, but it will also go down in history with one of the worst
final episodes, when compared with other shows of its stature. I'm embarrassed
for all those who had a hand in it (execs, cast, crew, etc), as they will also
be forever linked with it. How much thought did it take to come up with this
idea?
Misc thoughts:
-What was the deal with George's mother making a suggestive advance toward the
judge (Art Vandalay- I figured they'd get him in there... good job on that, at
least!). They never closed this story line, as far as I could tell.
-What was up with Elaine's eye makeup in the anteroom waiting for the verdict?
She looked a little clownish, with blue/white eyes... not normal for her, as
she normally wears very little makeup in comparison, and it was more
understated when she was in the courtroom... bad makeup artist?
-What was with all the shots of Kenny Banya in the courtroom? Was NBC giving
him face time on camera? Is he getting or has he got a show?
-Jackie should have kept his glasses on in bed... I think that would have been
more in character for him.
-Why did the judge pronounce the sentence as "spending a year removed from
society" (or words to that effect)? Is this an opening for people to speculate
on whether the show will be brought back later, after a hiatus? Will it open
up the possiblity of a Seinfeld made-for-TV movie later on?
Final questions- I think I've seen all but one or two episodes, and I've
seen some more than once in reruns, but wasn't there one where Elaine was
busted for trying to buy a contraband bra? I thought she was working with
Kramer to get (a green?) one from Cuba, but I've never seen this in reruns. Am
I confusing this with another show? If not, why isn't it shown in reruns?gon
