I watched Seinfeld last night like millions of other and was wondering if it topped the Mash finale which holds the TV record for most viewers. Usually this would be a no brainer but I only ask becuase I saw an article in Entertainment Weekly that said that Seinfeld would never top Mash becuase now there were too many things to distract them, like cable and the internet.

Unforunatley Seinfeld did worse than the Cheers finale. Seinfeld got a 51 share, Cheers got a 58 share.
The current record of 100+ million viewers for Mash is estimated based on the number of TV households in 1998. MASH only had about 50 million TV's tuned to the finale, Seinfeld had about 75 million homes, Cheers about 80.
However, MASH had a greater MARKET SHARE than either Seinfeld or Cheers. SO its incorrect to say MASH holds the record for most viewers; rather MASH holds the record for the percentage of TV households that watched it.

MASH probably had a better series finale than Seinfeld, but on the whole I thought the MASH series was too moralistic and not that funny. The movie MASH was much better. - Steve Denney
