Does it piss anybody else off that everybody from Seinfeld is doing commercials for Pepsi (and its many subsidiaries ...Rold Gold for example)? It bothers me that some of my favorite people are supporting a company that is notorious for investing in governments with horrendous human rights violations, just to make a PROFIT.

Not only do they do commercials for PepsiCo, but now the products are showing up in the show ***> THE WHOLE SHOW is becomming a COMMERCIAL!

Does comedy always have to involve politics? NBC has to make a profit
or it can't afford to stay in business. Beyond that, so does Pepsi,
and regardless of human rights violations from a foreign government.
(Truthfully, I don't even have any clue what you're talking about, and
I consider myself pretty well-informed, usually.)
Hey, the US Government supports abortion, let's all not pay our taxes
this year. Does it piss anyone else off tat we have to pay for them to
make laws that we don't agree with?

(Sarcasm, for the humorlyic impaired...)

Would you rather see George eating a bag of pretzels that said "PRETZELS" in big letters on it? Or a can of pop that says "COLA" written across it? I *hate* it when shows go out of their way to be "brand-name neutral". Adding brand names to products the actors consume on stage make it more realistic, IMHO. Can you imagine Jerry offering his guests a "fruit flavored beverage" instead of a Snapple? That'd be *really* funny..... (ya right.)

Jerry offering a "fruit flavored beverage" would only be funny if he was offering a Snapple. Of course, "fruit flavored beverage?" doesn't flow as nicly as "Snapple?"

Agreed, Brian...if it's one thing this show has been about, it's been parodying how silly political correctness can be...

Remember the Indian chief episode? Jerry couldn't even carry on a conversation, he was so worried he'd offend someone.

Seinfeld and crew have never made any bones about why they're doing this show...fame and money! So, they realize how it's gonna be a few years at the top and out, so the gang are all reaching for what they can grab, while they are in the position to do so.

Sell out? Naaaahhh. Only happens when you promise one thing, and deliver another. These commercial opportunities have been exactly what they've been working toward. Good for them!

What bothers me most about all of this is that everybody seems to think that profit is the best thing and the only reason for doing something. Something can be sucessful, break even, make a bit of a profit - thats ok, its this excessive profit, profit for the sake of profit, that bugs me.

I have always gone under the impression that people do things because they like to. I'd like to think that Jerry and everyone loves comedy and being in front of cameras or on stage. Its a real drag to think that they hate their jobs and only do it 'cause it pays well. It sort of doesn't make it as funny anymore. Of course, I don't really believe that they hate their jobs, I just think that they may have lost track of the priorities in life. And that can affect the show.

I have no problem with using real products on the show (instead of generic pretzels or cola) These people/actors/characters are influential enough that they can make people change their actions and opinions. If they want to have a product in their show, or support in through commercials, I think that they should do a little research to see what exactly it is that they are supporting.

BTW if you do want details of what I believe that PepsiCo is doing, read...oh shit, I don't have the complete name of the newsgroup. Anyways, do a search on "burma", or email me. Sorry 'bout that.

There is a difference between self-righteous political correctness and conscientious political correctness. Think about it. (even if I may have spelt conscientious wrong)

Anyways, thats enough of my CPC spew...I just like people to think about these things.

Thanks Alison [email]
NBC and Pepsi are businesses, just like Sam's Auto Parts down on the
corner is a business. They need to make money to pay their employees,
who need to make money to live.
Now, what you call "excessive" profit is a different debate, and I
won't deny that Jerry Seoinfeld undoubtedly lives a very comfortable
life. Take that debate to talk.politics.capitalism.
I don't think the value of a TV show is related to its money-making
potential, inversely or otherwise. Until a study proves that the
highest rated TV shows had the fewest occurrances of product-placement,
I'll continue to laugh despite the Pepsi sign hanging in the background
     of a particular scene.

Believe me, comedy and advertising are *not* related. ::smile::

I look at it as if it were real life...

They probally have drakes coffee cake all the time too.

Andy ==:^} I saw Joe Diamagio in Dinky Dounuts!

Doesn't George say something to the woman in the elevator in his Rold Gold commercials that was along the same lines of what Kramer said to him in his Gloria Vanderbilt glasses? "Excuse me madam....?" Maybe it's all in my head.
