Fans debate The Single Guy, a sitcom that aired after Friends and before Seinfeld; critics call it pathetic and unfunny while defenders praise Silverman and the writing.
This has been really bothering me. The Single Guy has been getting a free ride because Julia Louis-Dreyfuss is married to the show's creator--Brad Hall. The show is pathetic! If they ever move it to another time slot, it's doomed!
Hall was not funny when he was on SNL years ago, and he's not funny now! Nor is that smarmy Jonathan Silverman!

The Single Guy is a_great_show! Silverman is very funny and the character of Sam is absolutely a knee-slapper! The show has decent writing and it's just too bad you can't see it.

Judging from the responses you got from this post, you and I aren't alone in hating this stupid show.
Is there any way we can forward this to NBC so I'll stop having to turn off my TV between "Friends" and "Seinfeld"? OTOH, I get a lot of studying done in that half hour, so it's not all bad.
Hold on relief is on the way. NBC has moved "The Single Guy" to Weds where it can die peacefully. "The Nake Truth", a show brought over from ABC will replace "Suddenly Susan" at 9:30 on Thursday and that show in turn will move to the 8:30pm time slot..... Ummmm, wait a minute maybe relief is'nt on the way.

It's not that I "hate" the show, but before it first went on the air, I had my Thursday night line-up...all the shows then were well written. If it hadn't come in on their coat-tails, I would never have watched it. However, if NBC thought about it, it wouldn't have anything but the best either side of the Seinfeld time-slot, as in comparison, MOST other shows would suck. Some study, I do the evening dishes at that time...or change channels. Mary Jo
