I'm from sweden and one of our TV-stations has started showing reruns starting with the first episode. That first one was on just now and I was gonna tape it and all, and I did but I missed the first minutes so now I'm wondering if Elaine starred in it at all and if I missed when Jerry met Kramer (Kessler) for the first time ??? Oh and just to make sure that it was really the very first show, it was about Jerry who's meeting a woman that's he's interested in who flies in to New York to stay with him only to later find out that she's engaged.
That was the first episode, and no, Elaine wasn't in The Seinfeld Chronicles (the first 4 episodes, I believe) she came in when the show became Seinfeld and did it's first actual season run.
He doesn't meet him for the first time in this episode. They have been neighbors for years. Their first meeting occurs in a flashback sequence in "The Betrayal."
Yeah, that's the first episode. The show was called "The Seinfeld
Chronicles" but they changed the name to "Seinfeld" starting with
episode 2. Elaine did not show up in this one. Jerry's first on-screen
meeting with Kramer/Kessler/Hoffman occurred when Michael Richards came
over to "borrow some meat".

Even the name confusion was eventually explained in "The Betrayal" during the final season. It seems Kramer's mailbox was first mislabelled "Kessler"...and Kramer explains that to Jerry as he's moving in, when Jerry first calls him "Kessler." (But we're supposed to figure Jerry doesn't pick that up right away.)
It's also pretty clear from the timeline set in "The Betrayal" that the pilot episode "Good News, Bad News" (the only episode in the series whose title doesn't begin with the definite article "the") takes place probably within the first few weeks or months after Jerry has moved in...sometime in 1987, about the time Seinfeld and David first come up with and write the pilot script, although it's not shot until the end of 1988 and shown until summer of 1989. It'd be a whole year before more episodes were shot and scheduled, and that gap is actually realistically dealt with---it's clear that these people's relationships have gotten a lot more settled and established by the time we meet them again, and Elaine has come fully into the picture of their lives by the time the regular series starts production and goes to air in the spring of 1990. I like how they tied up that loose end. I only wish they had tied up a few more before it all ended. One more tidbit about Cosmo's last name. Kenny Kramer told me that Larry David had considered "Bender" for a while.
