Last two seasons

I recently watched the last two seasons (8 and 9) of Seinfeld here in Sweden on CanalPlus (a pay channel) and I was somewhat chocked over the quality of the show compared to the first 6 seasons that I've followed (national TV in Sweden is *a bit* slow!). Only about 10 episodes reached the high standard of the first 100 episodes, that I have been spoiled with - The Little Kicks, The Bizarro Jerry, The Package, The Chicken Roaster, The Abstinence, The Voice, The Frogger, The Maid, The Puerto Rican Day and The Yada Yada. The dialoges don't seem that sharp and the plots are not that what they used to be. Am I way wrong or do I have a point? - please respond!

I agree Tomas. I'm halfway thru the videotapes (I taped it all) and I thibk you're right, They do seem a little bit tired. Still Bizarro,Chicken Roaster and Frogger are great !! Lars Tomas skrev i meddelandet ...

Perhaps we are getting used to it. I saw the 8th season before the others and think that the older episodes weren't as good as the newer ones. I haven't seen the 7th season yet, though.

I though season 9 was slightly *less* successful than season 8 (I liked how Seinfeld became more, well, goofy). However, does anyone agree with me that Larry David's last season (7) had many "dry" episodes also? There were classics to be sure (The Rye, Soup Nazi), but the point is there were episodes in season 7 that were no better than what we saw in the last year.

Some people have mentioned they feel the newer episodes are not as
'good' as the older ones, but I personally haven't noticed that.  I've
gotten just as many laughs from the past two seasons as from any of the
previous ones.  Maybe it's just your perception.

Yes, I'm afraid you're absolutely right. The American media last fall started to have a few articles about this, and all the episode guides here acknowledge it too. By the way, I'm glad you like The Frogger--it seems a bit unsung. Did you like the backwards episode, The Betrayal? Seems to me it was the ONLY one of the 9th season that could remotely be called a classic.

I must say that I disagree with you that no other episode from the 9th season qualifies being a classic. For example I think The Maid is the best Seinfeld episode I've seen for years and it really contains everything that made the show so popular in the first place. I also believe that the Puerto Rican Day episode is the best episode ever situated outside Jerry's apartment. These episodes tend to have been below par over the years. Still I think that the 9th season is the worst (or least funny) as a whole.

God, you're so right. It would have been beautiful if "The Betrayal" -- written by Peter Mehlman, the most qualified person after Larry to write the finale -- had BEEN the finale, with the final scene going back(wards) all the way to Jerry and George meeting in some funny/contentious way on the schoolyard. Maybe with Larry David as a referee or apathetic P.E. teacher!
