The best episode is definitely....

...at least my favorite is...The Sniffing Accountant. I just saw it again a couple days ago. It is so goddamn funny. My favorite lines:

- i love that scene. quintessentially seinfeldian. a very banal conversation but loaded with humor. definitely one of the better eps. my favorite ep changes from week to week depending on my mood and what was aired on syndication that week. (obviously) i just saw the cashmere sweater and that was pretty brilliant. i particularly love costanza's shameless lying when elaine asked about the sweater. and jerry's confusion over the expression "off the wagon."

I don't know what the best episode was, but I think that the best line in any of them was :

With Jerry calling out the window to his "girlfriend"

I think it's fairly plain what the guy was saying. Getting laughs out of a wait in a Chinese Restaurant or pretending to be a Marine Biologist, just for a couple of examples is more difficult than getting laughs out of masturbation. Seinfeld's big schtick was that it was supposedly a show about nothing - at any rate a show about things that you wouldn't normally think of as humorous. Masturbation has been a comedy staple virtually forever. That's not to say the Contest isn't very funny but I do think it's overrated.

The Contest is good. And it is well done. And it is daring. But you can't *prove* it's the funniest or the best by any means and it all comes down to personal preferences. My point, in agreement with the original poster is simply that it's *easier* to get laughs out of such subjects as masturbation, or being mistakenly thought gay, or arguing over sexual positions (to add a few extra examples) than out of a lot of the other more mundane subjects dealt with in the show. And I stand by that point.

To tell you guys the truth...I never was all that fond of The Contest. Of course, I liked the episode(as every other Seinfeld episode), but it isn't even close to being one of my favorites. Same thing with The Soup Nazi. Everybody LOVES The Soup Nazi, but I didn't find the episode all that amuzing. It's one of the only Seinfeld episodes that I'm sick of seeing(and I watch my Seinfeld tapes every day). How many times can you hear the soup nazi say "No soup for you!" before you get irritated? The Contest and The Soup Nazi don't even compare to episodes like The Sniffing Accountant("I suck 'em down like coca-cola!" - one of my all-time favorite lines), The Heart Attack(has one of the best Seinfeld scenes with Jerry and George in the hospital. "Kill me now! I'm begging you!"), and The Red Dot("H-E-Double N-I...").

One of MY favourite episodes was The Switch. The "plotting" scene was terrific.

And I love where Kramer is trying to convince George to go to Tor. "My friend, Bob Sacamano! He came in here for a hernia operation. Oh yeah...routine surgery. Now he's sitting in a wheelchair near a window going, 'My name is Bob!' Whatever you do, George, don't let 'em touch ya! Don't let 'em touch ya!" "Well what should I do, Kramer?" I love The Switch too. Great episode.

I never said that I don't like them because they're popular. As a matter of fact...I DO like those episodes as I stated before. What I was saying is that they aren't even close to being my favorites. I have friends who don't normally watch Seinfeld that think The Soup Nazi is the best episode. What I find funny is that it's one of the only episodes that they've seen. There are so many better episodes that they aren't aware of.

I liked the 'Soup Nazi'

Especially the scene with Kramer and the Nazi talking. It shows Kramer as a character that everyone likes. Only Kramer could make the 'soup nazi' warm up to someone.

And the 2 gay characters were introduced in this episode. Later to be cast in the 'Red Ribbon'.

My fave would be either "The Contest" just because it gave us the phrase "master of my domain" (which, of course, I am), or "The Tape Message".

I also love the part in "The Red Dot" where Mr. Lippman throws the offending cashmere cardigan over George's head at long range and you can see Richard Fancy (Lippman) desperately trying not to laugh. Was this planned, or just a wonderful spontaneous moment?

My all time favourite episode is definitely The Good Samaritan, splendid work from all actors involved. This one features among the best lines ever written by Mr Seinfeld.

I don't know which is my favorite episode, but just little things make me laugh hysterically. Like in "The Frogger" when Kramer puts the "Police Line, Do Not Cross" tape around the egg that he spilled. And in "The Gum" when Jerry wears those frickin huge glasses that are like an inch thick. Another really funny one is in "The Race" when Jerry tries to speak Russian. If anyone has "The Susie" on tape, you have got to watch the scene in the restaurant when Kramer and George are "breaking up." Watch Kramer's face when he's leaving and the noise he makes.
